HARRISON OLNEY

Main Cemetery -- Area D
Lot 345 -- Westside

Harrison Olney owned a large farm on the very edge of Pittsford or some sources say he lived four miles south of the line which delineated Pittsford and Mendon. It depended upon what year the line between the two municipalities was created.
Nevertheless, Mr. Olney owned property in the southern part of the town.

There is a large obelisk in the Pittsford cemetery near the first entrance off Washington Road. There are two other similar markers near that of Harrison belonging to two other Olney brothers.

Harrison was very much involved in the affairs of the Pittsford community and was well considered. He raised cattle and had two barns on his property on East Street. Some of his cousins are buried in the East Street Cemetery, but Harrison and his two brothers chose to be interred in the newer cemetery that was created in 1842.

On the front of the stone marking Harrison’s final resting place is his name and on the rear is the name of a woman and a child. As far as it has been able to be researched, he was never married nor did he have any legitimate children. His property and large holdings must have passed on to his siblings.
