KALI ANN POULTON

Main Cemetery -- Area F
Lot 450 -- Westside

This beautiful little 4½ year old girl was riding her Big Wheel on a sidewalk near her home in East Rochester. She was living at the Gleason Estates apartment complex with her mother, Judy Gifford-Tosh, until she was brutally murdered on May 23, 1994, by her neighbor.

Late on a lovely May afternoon in1994, Kali (pronounced KAY-lee) had begged her mother to let her go outside to ride her new pink and white tricycle until time for dinner. Although she had promised to stay close to home, the neighbor must have somehow enticed the child to enter his suburban town home. Her mom could not find the little girl when she went to call her in to eat and panic-stricken, she began scouring the neighborhood.

All of the community and beyond helped search for the missing child. Her mother continued to frantically search for Kali for 27 months until the youngster was finally found on August 10,1996, in a cooling tank at the former workplace of the monstrous neighbor. The story received country-wide coverage on several national shows including Oprah Winfrey’s show and America’s Most Wanted. A memorial service for Kali Ann drew 2,500 people as they grieved along with her parents.

Kali was mourned and quietly buried here in this place with no fanfare or public knowledge. This stone, with her beautiful portrait, is here to memorialize this lovely little child who is still remembered by many.
